So. I’ve told you all before that I sweat– a LOT. In all honesty, this was more of an issue back in my late teens and early twenties than it is now, but I don’t really know if that’s because my chemistry has changes or antiperspirants have gotten better. Either way, I can assure you that there is no way on earth I am ever skipping a day of wearing deodorant. No. Way.

Anyway, since I’m still slightly scarred from my years of dreading sweat and wetness, I was I was actually pretty excited to try out one of the new varieties of Secret Clinical Strength.

I was intrigued by the claim that Secret Clinical helps protect against the three causes of sweat:

  • Heat
  • Activity
  • Stress Sweat (<– apparently, this is supposed to be the stinkiest of the three!)

Why does stress sweat smell worse? Sweat caused by physical activity and temperature is produced by eccrine sweat glands, and is 99% water and 1% nutrients, but stress sweat produced from the apocrine gland increases bacterial, and Water + Nutrients + Bacteria = Odor.

Secret Clinical Strength is available in three varieties and four scents:

Varieties–

  • New! Clear Gel (leaves no white marks)
  • New! Invisible Solid (goes on dry and stays dry)
  • and Smooth Solid (contains skin smoothing conditioners)

Scents–

  • Completely Clean
  • Powder Protection
  • Ooh-la-la Lavender
  • Sport Fresh

I tried out the new Clear Gel formula in the Sport Fresh scent. I really liked the soft, not-too-powerful or sweet smell of this product. Honestly, I don’t really like strong florals under my pits, so I knew I wanted something more on the “fresh” side and this delivered.

There’s not a lot to report about applying/using a deodorant or antiperspirant, really. You all know how to do this. :) The one thing I didn’t love about this particular formulation is that, as a gel, it goes on feeling wet. It really only takes a few seconds to dry but I found that, if I didn’t take that time, I felt sticky and weird for awhile. It wasn’t a big deal but, as someone who’s used to solids, it was something I needed to adapt to.

The big question: does it work? Indeed, it does. I’ve been pleased with Secret’s products in the past and this one was no exception. I was able to happily play outside in the unseasonable heat all weekend without feeling sweaty and stinky– that’s really all I ask for!
