So, let’s talk about fruit snacks for a minute here.
First off, let me just tell you that, despite the name, I do not file “fruit snacks” under the “fruit” category. Fruit grows on bushes, plants, or tree and includes things like bananas, oranges, apples, berries, pears, and, yes, tomatoes! Personally, I file “fruit snacks” under “snacks” and that’s exactly how I treat them.
Honestly, that’s one reason I kind of appreciate how Fiber One has named their latest snack offering– Fiber One ™ Fruit Flavored Snacks. That’s exactly what they are!
So, now that we’ve established that, let me also get real with you all– while I don’t particularly enjoy chewy type snacks or candies or any of that, my kids think fruit snacks are fantastic. This pretty much makes them typical kids, really. As a result, they were pretty darn excited that we got the opportunity to try out two different flavors (Assorted Fruit and Mixed Berry) of Fiber One ™ Fruit Flavored Snacks.
Their description states, “a delicious treat with the added benefit of fiber!” I don’t know too much about the fiber making one bit of difference to my children, but they definitely thought they were tasty and, I can’t lie, there is something incredibly easy about tossing one of those little pouches in my purse.
Nutritionally, each pouch comes in at 3 grams of fiber, 70 calories, 0 grams of fat, and 100% daily value Vitamin C – a “better-for-you” snack you can take on the go. Is this as good a grab-and-go snack as an apple? I don’t really think so. But it’s definitely better than a handful of gummy bears or other similar treat that would appeal to my chewy-loving children.
Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty, shall we? — would I recommend these to you?
Sure, if you’re in the market for a treat for fruit-snack loving children. Honestly, if your friends and family are anything like mine, they realize these are not a “perfect” snack, but also acknowledge that, yes, kids like them. And, so, many of us buy them sometimes. Sales and coupons make these quick, affordable options to have around on occasion and I’d be lying if I told you I never bought a packaged snack.
So there you go! Kid-tested. Kid-approved. Me? I still really don’t like chewy sweet stuff.
