Disney “Secret Of The Wings” (review & giveaway)

For the most part, this blogging gig of mine is something my kids don’t really understand. They certainly wouldn’t ever consider it my “job”– my role as stay-at-home mom neatly fills that role. But, every once in awhile, an opportunity comes along that makes them think that Mommy’s “writing job” is super, duper awesome.

This was one of those times.

For our pizza and a movie night last night, we had the awesome chance to view an early release of Disney’s newest Disney Fairies movie, “Secret of the Wings.”

This was a big thing for us! Not only was it exciting to get to watch a new movie, but it was also the very first Blu-ray movie that my children ever watched. In fact, “Secret of the Wings” will be the very first movie from the Disney Fairies franchise to be produced in 3D. How cool is that?

“Secret of the Wings” is the next movie adventure in the Disney Fairies franchise after “Tinker Bell”, “Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure”, and “Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue.” I don’t mind admitting that this one captivated me the most. Not only is the snow animation of Winter Woods completely enthralling, but the introduction of Periwinkle, who turns out to be Tinker Bell’s sister, adds a whole new dimension to the world of Pixie Hollow.

Tinker Bell and Periwinkle never knew of one another and, as one is a warm-weather fairy and the other a winter fairy, they have been kept separate. Still, the bond of sisterhood is strong and they struggle to overcome steep obstacles in order to spend more time together in one another’s worlds.

My friends… I cried. I managed to hide it from my husband and children, but I sniffled away between bites of buffalo chicken pizza.

I watched these two fairy sisters part ways at “the divide” and the tears flowed. I looked down at my own daughters, snuggled side-by-side in front of the coffee table, their eyes wide. They take each other’s company for granted. They share a room, share a dresser, share hair bows and accessories.

And I love that they have that luxury.

I, too, took my own sister’s company for granted as a child. Sure, I loved playing dolls and building forts with her, but I also rolled my eyes a lot and wished I didn’t have to put up with her. We were blessed to be in one another’s way throughout our growing up years.

But I’ve had to say goodbye to her, too. We’ve lived states and states apart as grown-ups and I’ve cried tears as I packed up my babies and kissed hers goodbye. It’s hard to leave your sister.

Disney captures that emotion so well in “Secret of the Wings”… the beautiful, lasting bond that exists between sisters. I think I might need to invite my sis over cup of coffee after watching that one…
