Strawberry Vodka Slush

Can we call this one healthy because it’s jam-packed with frozen fruit?  Eh, maybe not… but it’s fresh, delicious, and beautiful.   Many people I know seem to be A-OK with wine or beer, but get squeamish and scared about “hard liquor” like vodka or rum.  I think they have visions of heavy drinkers getting wasted on shots.  The truth is that some very tasty (and not particularly strong) drinks can be made with these ingredients.  This is a good example–

Strawberry Vodka Slush (yields 2 drinks)

  • 3-4 oz. vodka (To be honest, I just pour until right about the 1/2 cup line on my blender.)
  • 2 cups frozen strawberry (You can buy them frozen or freeze them yourself– fresh strawberries are very affordable this time of year!)
  • 12 oz. lemon lime soda* (I prefer to use Sierra Mist because it’s made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup, but any kind will work just fine.)

Pour vodka in blender.  Add frozen berries and start blending.  Slowly pour soda through the opening in your blender lid.  Increase blender speed and blend until very smooth.  Because the berries are frozen, there’s generally no need to add ice to this one!

*When I’m feeling ambitious, I replace the soda with 8 oz. of plain seltzer and a couple of ounces of lime simple syrup.  I make the simple syrup with 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup water, and 1/4 cup lime juice.  The finished product looks the same either way.

Cheers!  And enjoy. :)
