You Are Mine (What I’m Singing Today)

I don’t tend to do this sort of Sunday post, but I just felt compelled to share the joy!  This is the hymn that I keep belting out today and it fills me with tears and shivers.  “I love you and you are Mine.”  How AMAZING is that???

“You Are Mine”, by David Haas

Lyrics:
I will come to you in the silence
I will lift you from all your fear
You will hear My voice
I claim you as My choice
Be still, and know I am near

I am hope for all who are hopeless
I am eyes for all who long to see
In the shadows of the night,
I will be your light
Come and rest in Me

Chorus:
Do not be afraid, I am with you
I have called you each by name
Come and follow Me
I will bring you home
I love you and you are mine

I am strength for all the despairing
Healing for the ones who dwell in shame
All the blind will see, the lame will all run free
And all will know My name

Chorus:
Do not be afraid, I am with you
I have called you each by name
Come and follow Me
I will bring you home
I love you and you are mine

I am the Word that leads all to freedom
I am the peace the world cannot give
I will call your name, embracing all your pain
Stand up, now, walk, and live

Chorus:
Do not be afraid, I am with you
I have called you each by name
Come and follow Me
I will bring you home
I love you and you are mine

  • There is a beautiful singer who sings this at Mass in our parish sometimes, I struggle against tears when she sings it as it first began to mean so much to me when I was expecting our little daughter who had serious health issues picked up in her routine scan. Thanks for posting that today, a little Sunday cry does no harm :-)

    • I got teary reading about your memory of this song, Jennifer… I think there is an amazing “mama” connection to the words “I love you and you are mine” that takes on such incredible meaning through this hymn! (I sniffle while I sing it sometimes, too…)

      • Jessie, I think Louise has caused I honestly think thousands of people to cry, both tears of suffering and also tears of joy. Mostly my tears these days are caused by the mischief she gets up to!! If you like a therapeutic cry you might enjoy a little peep at her story (I won’t put the URL so you don’t think I’m trying to spam but if you google littlelouise blog it will come up) it is her story from the time of diagnosis. I started her blog because we didn’t know whether her life would be long or short and I wanted her life to maybe give someone else hope. She has a lot of ongoing issues but she has defied all the predictions and continues to amaze us all every day, she lights up the world! Jennifer.

  • I sang this at Mass yesterday as well. It has the power to move my spirit no matter what point I am in life. It is so powerful!

This is one of my absolute favorite hymns. My Sisters-in-law are both music ministers, and have taught my Boo many of the more frequently sung hymns in our parish. Nothing is sweeter than hearing her playing in her room singing “I love you and you are mine.”

    • I think we’ve “talked” about this before, Marcia, but I just love, love, LOVE hearing littles ones sing their “church songs.” There is something so beautiful and innocent and precious about it. I loved the image of your little one playing and singing this hymn. :)

  • Oh, that’s one of my favorites! Not only for the beautiful lyrics, but because it’s an easy one to sing, and I can belt it with confidence. :)
