Menu Plan: 10/16 – Welcome back, orzo!

 

My husband spotted it when we were at the grocery store together: Orzo.  We used to eat orzo frequently back in our “couple” days and even when we just had one infant (well, and one on the way.)  I’m not sure when it fell off my menu-planning map, but I certainly didn’t realize that he had actually really missed it!  In the cart it went.  It was fun introducing this tiny pasta to our three kids on Sunday night!

 

Here’s what’s happening for the rest of the week:

 

Sunday: 

Early Breakfast for the littles-Cereal, Yogurt, Juice (before 7:30am mass)

Brunch-Eggs Over-Medium (scrambled for C and me!), Toast, Applesauce, Milk
Mid-Afternoon Snack-Cheese Roll-Ups
D-Mediterranean Chicken w/ Orzo

 

Monday:
B-Double Cranberry Oatmeal, Milk
L-P, B, & J, Apples, Water
D-Chicken & Rice Enchiladas, Corn

 

Tuesday:
B-Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake, Oranges, Milk
L-Bean, Cheese, & Salsa Wrap, Water
D-Pizza Omelets, Toast, Fruit

 

Wednesday:
B-Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake, Yogurt, Juice
L-HB Egg, Toast, Raisins, Water
D-Broccoli & Cheese Baked Rice

 

Thursday:
B-Toast w/ Cream Cheese & Jam, Raisins, Milk
L-Buttered Macaroni & Broccoli, Water
D-Homemade Turkey Chili, Corn Bread

 

Friday:
B-Strawberry Banana Smoothies, Toast
D-Pepperoni Pizza (for the kids?  Hopefully?  We’re going to try to go out “just the two of us” this night!)

Saturday:
B-Scrambled Eggs w/ Bacon, Toast, Fruit, Milk
L-Chicken Noodle Soup, Apples, Water
D-Buffalo Chicken Pasta, Corn

 

That’ll do it!  In other news, I’m making a huge effort to eat more fruit.  I am a stellar veggie eater, but not so good with fruit.  I’m really trying (smoothies and slushies are helping!)  I’ll let you know if I notice a difference.  :)   Is there any food you KNOW you should eat more of, but struggle with?  (fyi: Fish would be another one for me…)

  • I’m the opposite of you. I can eat fruit just fine but struggle with veggies. I’m working on making sure we have a salad each night with dinner to get more in.

    Fruit and veggies are tough ones for me. Give me meat and pasta, potatoes and I’m good to go. Both my kids LOVE veggies (I’ve even had grocery store tantrums over veggies) but fruit is not really their thing. It’s pretty limited to Bananas, Apples and Grapes.

    • Your kids sound like my son, Celine! He’s getting better with fruits, but he’s always preferred veggies. (My mom introduced him to watermelon w/ feta cheese sprinkled on it and he thinks THAT is super cool. ;))

  • I’m all about the veggies as well. Sometimes I’m really into fruit. For example, when watermelon or berries come into season I obsess over them for a few weeks then don’t touch any fruit for a few weeks after that.

    Fish is a hard one for me as well. I’ve never been a huge fan and don’t really know how to cook it.

    • Ooh, I do love berries! They’re just so pricey out-of-season that it’s a pretty short window that I actually get to eat them. I really WISH I liked fish more. I should work on it… I do actually cook it because all 3 of my children like it– I don’t want them following in their mama’s bad footsteps, you know? :)
