Menu Plan: 7/31 – Inadvertent Pantry Challenge

 

Since I only do a real shopping trip every four weeks, I do a pretty good job of using up what we’ve got rolling around here on a regular basis.  It is very, very rare that I have stuff sitting in my pantry or freezer for any real length of time.  So, when we decide to skip the big drive to Aldi and eke out an extra week, it takes some creativity.  I like it, though, and we never really suffer.

 

My kids are such good sports.  Brown rice, string cheese, and some pineapple for lunch?  Works for them!  Really, truly, they never fuss at me.  They’re either well-trained or I’m very lucky.  ;)

 

For weeks like this, you’ll see that it’s very simple.  Spaghetti, hot dogs, and sandwiches all make appearances… and that’s perfectly fine!  Sometimes, that’s just what has to be done.

 

Without further ado…

 

Sunday:

B-Cereal, Applesauce, Milk
L-Vanilla Caramel Pancakes, Turkey Bacon (I’m not sure about this- but I got it for next to free, so we’ll try it.), Mixed Fruit
D-Spaghetti (truth?  this will be a combo of different pasta shapes- I have these rinky dink amounts left of about 3 different boxes), French Cut Green Beans, Homemade Bread

 

Monday:
B-Wild Berry Oatmeal w/ shaved dark chocolate, Milk  (indulgent?  perhaps… but why not???)
L-P, B, & J, Blackberries, Pretzels, Water
D-Mini Shells w/ Ham, Broccoli, Cheese Sauce


Tuesday:
B-Biscuits w/ Cheddar, Apples, Milk
L-Hot Dogs, Crackers, Green Beans, Water
D-Crab & Cheddar Tortilla Roll-Ups w/ lettuce & tomato from the garden

 

Wednesday:
B-Biscuits, Scrambled Eggs, Applesauce, Milk
L-P,B,&J on Buns, Carrot Sticks w/ Bleu Cheese dressing, Water
D-Mexican Tomato Soup, Tuna Sandwiches, Salad

 

Thursday:
B-PB Raisin Toast, Milk
L-Brown Rice, String Cheese, Pineapple, Water
D-Hot Dogs (on burger buns, ’cause that’s what I have!), Corn, Pickles

 

Friday:
B-Banana Blueberry Smoothies, Toast
L-Cheesy Beans & Rice, Water
D-Salsa Cheddar Pizza

 

Saturday:
B-Oatmeal Breakfast Cookies, Scrambled Eggs, Pineapple
L-Zucchini Bread (as long as powdery mildew doesn’t overtake my zukes!), Chicken Rice Soup, Apples
D-Hot & Sour Peanut Rice w/ Carrots & ???  (I’ll be grocery shopping that morning, so we’ll have meat in the house again.  I’ll add either chicken or pork, most likely)

 

And that’s that!  Hardest part of menu planning this past week was the rationing of eggs and cheese… I’m kind of low on them (at least for what I’m used to!) and so I needed to note exactly how much to use for each time they make an appearance.  Not a big deal, but it made me realize how fortunate I am to be able to skip that step most weeks.
