Menu Plan: 7/17 – Tasty Turkey Burgers

Still enjoying our garden!  I have many yellow flowers on my cherry tomato plant and my daughters and I are watching eagerly for those little green tomatoes to appear.  We love them!  Very few pea pods even make it into the house, but we sure love having them for quick snacks during our impromptu soccer games!  Here are a few ways garden produce is sneaking into our menu this week:

You may have noticed that I’ve had a lot of turkey burgers on my menu the last few weeks.  The reason is simple: I didn’t find any good deals on ground beef when I shopped at the beginning of the month.  Now.  I know lots of people have major issues with turkey burgers.  I get that.  Especially if you’re the type who adds nothing to your burger meat but salt and pepper… I get that.   The key to a tasty turkey burger is ample seasoning and clever toppers!   Last week’s Greek Turkey Burger w/ Cucumber Dill Dressing & Feta, served in a pita was jam-packed with yumminess!  Don’t be put off by ground turkey… but save the “simple” recipes for a good beef burger. :)

How about you?  What are your thoughts on turkey burgers?

  • If I use ground turkey in place of ground beef I always add lots of Worchestershire to beef it up.

    • Ooh, worcestershire always tastes good! I tend to use lots of spices and more unique cheeses with turkey burgers- I know it’s never going to taste like beef, but it can still be good, right? :)

  • I have never had turkey burger. We do still have some beef in our freezer from a local butcher which I like. Now, have you ever tasted deer meat :)? Our friends butchered one and had an over abundance and they gave us plenty of packages for free! I use it in place of ground beef and can hardly taste a difference. Now tell me, do you think I’m a country bumpkin now :P? LOL!

    • I do NOT think you’re a country bumpkin at all… and how nice to have fresh meat so graciously given to you! I’ve not tried deer that I can recall, but my husband once ordered antelope in a restaurant and I tried it. It was phenomenal. :)
