Grab your calendar… make a date!

As I type this, literally, my children are eating pigs in blankets and carrot sticks… without me.  Within the hour, my husband will be leaving work and will stop on the way home to pick up some Diet Coke… because he’s romantic like that.  Seriously!  Those little things?  Just paving the way for a lovely little at-home date night tonight.  I can’t wait!  We’ve been exchanging silly emails all day.  “I’m going to run to the store- you need anything?”  “Do I need anything?  Just some sugar…” *wink, wink, nudge, nudge* It’s silly, but it’s also so fun!

I’ve already told you all how we roll

Mandi knocked my socks off with her reminders of how we can keep that fire alive without necessarily planning those often overrated “date nights”:

This post may just get me kicked out of the blogosphere, but in all honesty, I think the importance of regular date nights is over-emphasized and not really a true indicator of a healthy marriage at all.

Yep, I said it.

What I think is really important is being intentional about prioritizing your marriage and relationship.

Amy pretty much hits the nail on the head when it comes to having a “date” night that will delight your man:

Truth?  This series is about honoring the man they call daddy.  If we’re really talking about honoring his wishes, we may as well forget the food and the movie.  He doesn’t really want a date.  He wants to go to bed.  Early.  With me. Nothing more frugal than that!

Tara gets to the “why” of it all… why even bother taking the time to date your man?

We have failed to work on our marriage.

We don’t need to read books or see a counselor or take an inventory of our relationship.

We need to go on dates.

Without distraction.

Without babies.

And Jessica, oh, Jessica knows how to make an at-home date special.  Black coffee addict I may be, but this looks amazing

I created this concoction awhile back when I was feeling too cheap for even Starbucks’ two-buck Frappuccino. Since I already had the ingredients I needed at home and a rocking Magic Bullet to do the work for me, I whipped up a couple for me and hubs.

Yes, they’re indulgent, but you’re worth it, baby…

  • I love all these ideas and how you are making it simple, fun and most of all truly “do-able”. So many couples tend to lose focus on their marriage and prioritize their children above their spouse. I see it all the time when I work with moms and I love helping them get things back in line – I will be suggesting this post to read too! Thanks

    • Truthfully, Susan? That person who “prioritizes their children above their spouse” is too often me. Writing this series has helped me really work on my OWN focus, too, and remember to nurture my marriage. Thank you so much for your kind comment!
